Prevent an Asthma attack

How to Prevent an Asthma Attack

You really can’t prevent an attack because you never know when an attack is going to come out. But there are ways to try to prevent an attack. The key is to recognize the symptoms and in the onset of an attack you can take the medication . You may be able to turn a huge attack into something minor. The symptoms of asthma are coughing especially in the morning or night. Wheezing, tightness of the chest, rapid breathing and the feeling of not being able to catch your breath.

The key is also not to panic, if you feel an attack coming on, you have to calm your self down and take your medication. By panicking you are inviting a more severe attack to happen. What can also happen, is if the person having the attack continues to panic then he is causing more restriction in the airways and along with an anxiety attack the fingers can turn blue. If you are with someone having an attack or maybe it is you having an attack you have to remain calm no matter what.

If you feel even the slightest symptom, take the medication. Some asthmatics tend to do that. They cough more than once and they think they are having an attack and then they take the medicines and they prevent an attack. We are not saying you have to take the inhaler the second you cough but don’t dismiss the symptoms. Always keep your prescriptions filled at all times. The best thing you can do to prevent an attack when you are away or shopping or in a restaurant is to tell the people you are with, where you keep the inhaler in case they need to use it.
